Welcome back to Year 1!
I hope we’ve all enjoyed our half term break. We have just finished learning about the Lion Inside and The Three Little Pigs.
This term our topic is Oh I do like to be beside the seaside. We will be learning about seahorses, talking and comparing how holidays have changed over time. We will also be exploring maps and having a look at globes talking about near and far, left and right.
In English, we will be reading ‘Sea Horse, the shyest fish in the sea’ by Chris Butterworth and John Lawrence. We are going to be writing an information text about the things we find out about seahorses. As a class we will be learning how to write persuasive texts on seahorses and writing poems all about the seaside.
Please can you continue to read with children as it is very helpful if the children could read as often as possible at home. If the children do read at home, please write in their reading record and this can include a school reading book or any book that they read from home. Reading book bags need to be brought to school each day along with reading records. Please let one of the adults in year one know if their books needs changing.
English or maths homework will be sent home each Friday and children must bring their homework back by the following Thursday. Please can the children do all of their homework in pencil. I’ll be awarding stickers for neatly presented homework.
Our focus in PE this term is dance. The children will need their PE kit in school every week. Our PE day will be on a Tuesday with firstfooters dance class. I will be giving out house points to those children that have their PE kit! Please make sure that the children have a white t-shirt, blue/ black shorts and black pumps or trainers. All items need to be clearly labelled with their names please!
