Welcome to Year 1OJ’s class page
Happy New Year! We hope you all had a good break!
We’ve got a very exciting term coming up with our upcoming residential to Burwardsley. We hope that you have all information that you need but please come and speak to us if you have any questions. Let’s hope the weather is good to us!
With our English, we are starting with the book, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. Our residential will give us lots of experiences, which we can incorporate into our writing linked to this book. The book is classed as a fantasy story as it is set in an alternate reality, so you can talk about, or even read, your own fantasy stories at home.
In Maths, we are moving on to work with numbers up to 50. Please keep counting in 1s, 2s and 10s, some of you have even worked on counting in 5s.
As you know, our topic this term is ‘Lady With The Lamp’. Thank you to the children that completed their holiday homework. We had lots of information shared with us and even some lamps that the children made at home. Well done! The children will be given lots of opportunity to write during our topic lessons, so if children can tell you about their topic knowledge at home, that will help with their writing.
The whole school is having a push on improving our handwriting (even the staff!) so we would really like it if children are encourage to complete their homework in their best handwriting as well. It lets them know that we are all in it together! There is going to be a handwriting star of the week and their work will be displayed on a whole school display.
Children will get a piece of homework on a Friday and it is to be returned by the next Thursday. Children receive a housepoint for completing their homework. PE is now on a Tuesday afternoon and it will be the same time each week and will be taught by Mrs Oomen.
Thank you for the amount of effort you are making with the children’s reading, it really is having a great impact on their progress and their enjoyment of reading. We have lots of children being very successful with the Wolverham Reading Challenge!
If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to us after school,
Mrs Jones and Mrs Oomen
